[12:24:20] <Moarc> I'm using Arch Linux 32 on an old Pentium 3 box and I recently noticed that my Arduino-based PS/2 "keyboard" doesn't work there
[12:25:00] <Moarc> of course, I added the i8042 and atkbd modules to mkinitcpio.conf, with no effect
[12:25:20] <Moarc> the keyboard converter works fine in BIOS, GRUB and FreeDOS
[12:25:39] <Moarc> but under Linux, it doesn't show up in /dev/input at all
[12:26:46] <Moarc> there's a "serio: i8042 KBD port at 0x60,0x64 irq 1" message in dmesg, but after that, it's not picked up by input, which only detects the power buttons and the PC speaker
[12:29:26] <Moarc> unfortunately, I recently got rid of my last actual PS/2 keyboard, so I can't check if that works

[12:42:35] <bill-auger> are you certain that the arduino keyboard is supposed to be a standards-cpmpliant PS2 device? - or perhaps it only coincidentally has a PS2-shaped plug
[12:43:41] <bill-auger> it seems peculiar that arduino would need to make a special keyboard, if any old keyboard would work
[12:45:21] <bill-auger> ok, nm - if it works with DOS, i suppose it should (could) work with linux
[12:51:55] <Moarc> one thing I noticed is that I didn't read the stuff the PC sends at all
[12:52:06] <Moarc> as of now the keyboard does work in initrd

[12:55:17] <Moarc> so it seems I've sorted out the keyboard, and now I'm facing another problem which only surfaced in kernel 5.11 or so - crashing nouveau
[12:56:57] <Moarc> yeah, login attempts show up in the journal, so the keyboard is working, it's just that nothing is displayed on the console
[12:58:30] <Moarc> but strangely enough, although nouveau does crash, eliminating it by applying the nomodeset option does not fix my console
[13:03:29] <Moarc> scratch that - it does
[13:04:00] <T`aZ_> nouveau is not stable at all, avoid it like the plague if you can
[13:04:10] <Moarc> so, as always, I've figured it out myself right after despairing and asking people on the internet [']

[13:04:57] <Moarc> well, especially on an ancient Riva TNT
