[23:32:34] <alexandre9099> hi, is there any distro based in this one with xfce pre installed?
[23:32:59] <alexandre9099> also does this port have all packages that the other repos have?
[23:42:09] <deep42thought> alexandre9099: well, currently we have no packages at all, but the plan is to recompile all official repositories for i686 (or even i486 - that's not 100% decided yet)
[23:42:36] <deep42thought> iff you're asking about 32-bit support - otherwise: just ignore me :-)
[23:42:46] <alexandre9099> hum, so the project is just an idea?
[23:42:56] <alexandre9099> yeap, 32 bit support on arch :)
[23:43:17] <deep42thought> well, we have installation media, a plan, some scripts and a lot of good will :-D
[23:44:07] <deep42thought> but currently, the official packages still support 32 bit
[23:44:43] <alexandre9099> :) i might install it on my old laptop, debian based distros are very bad, the packages are very outdated :/ that's why i like arch, everything is updated
[23:48:29] <eschwartz> The thing about actually supporting 32-bit here, is that we still have months and months until Arch actually drops first-tier support. :)
[23:48:48] <eschwartz> So the 32-bit port is currently in the process of being arranged, but there is no need to actually publish the repos yet...
[23:49:41] <eschwartz> But see https://github.com for more details, currently being tested in peoples' spare time
[23:49:55] <alexandre9099> yea, i know the official support will only be dropped somewhere near august
[23:50:03] <eschwartz> November, actually
[23:50:54] <alexandre9099> yea, but what is going to happen when they drop the support?
[23:51:00] <barthalion> I can make it longer if it eases migration
[23:51:35] <eschwartz> Shortly before then, archlinux32.org will start hosting repos. i686 users will update their mirrorlist and pacman -Syu
[23:52:10] <barthalion> but really no longer than end of the year
[23:53:07] <alexandre9099> humm, just that simple things was making me not to install arch :) i'll install it when i have pacience and time :D arch is kinda boring to install but it is cool after it is installed :D
[23:54:34] <eschwartz> We still have six months to complete the builder scripts ;) and there are machines available to do all the work. :) And at least one offer to provide mirroring services.
[23:55:56] <alexandre9099> cool :) i'll install it ASAP, which desktop enviroment (not sure if it is the correct term, i mean by DE, like plasma, xfce, lxde, gnome, etc) you recomend for my atom n270?
[23:58:26] <eschwartz> gnome is IMHO incredibly ugly, plasma is nice looking but very much one of the heavyweight ones. I personally use Cinnamon FWIW
[23:59:20] <eschwartz> But for that kind of general stuff, you are probably better in a non -ports specific channel. ;)
[23:59:48] <alexandre9099> yea, i agree with you :D plasma is pretty feature rich, but also very heavyweighty :/
