[12:53:57] <tyzoid> hey deep42thought, I'm working on a new experimental -dual iso, which includes a graphical environment. Interested in helping test?
[12:58:21] <deep42thought> honestly, I'm not a big fan of graphical environments, and I'm also quite busy currently

[13:08:55] <bq> graphical environments is where you start to lose the Archness part of Arch

[18:22:35] <rewbycraft> tyzoid: I'm with deep42thought and bq on this: I'm against including a graphical environment on the iso.
[18:23:06] <rewbycraft> Also, can either of you -v me as I don't have op here?
[18:25:26] -!- mode/#archlinux-ports [-v rewbycraft] by ChanServ
[18:26:01] <rewbycraft> Thanks fsckd

[18:41:11] -!- isacdaavid has joined #archlinux-ports
[18:41:16] <tyz> rewbycraft: I fully agree, the official isos will remain as they are. It's an experimental iso that's designed to be a boot-everywhere live environment for general compute.
[18:41:28] -!- isacdaavid has quit [Client Quit]
[18:41:35] <tyz> aka, plug into untrusted machine, get clean environment
[18:41:48] <rewbycraft> Still not a good idea
[18:41:58] <rewbycraft> Arch is the lego distro. You build your env your way
[18:42:08] <rewbycraft> If you were going to write a script to build such isos, I'd be all for it
[18:42:17] <rewbycraft> Let people build their own "take anywhere" env
[18:42:17] <tyz> that's what I'm doing.
[18:42:22] <rewbycraft> But actually publishign the isos
[18:42:24] <rewbycraft> Eeehhh
[18:42:52] <tyz> I'm not claiming affiliation between this and any other project
[18:43:06] <tyz> but the intention is to release the build script
[18:43:39] <tyz> I just needed help testing it
[18:44:17] <tyz> It's an evolution of a personal project I've been working on for a while, where I had an arch install on a usb stick. Building it with archiso instead makes it more portable.
[18:44:44] <tyz> but rewbycraft, even if I do release the iso, what's the issue?
[18:45:02] <tyz> (a) I'm not claiming it "official" or "affiliated with the arch project" in anyway
[18:45:14] <tyz> (b) I'm also releasing the source/build script for people who want to build their own
[18:45:23] <rewbycraft> tyz: I'm under the impression, correct me if I'm wrong, that you want to release it under arch32.
[18:45:28] <tyz> not at all
[18:45:32] <tyz> this is very much a personal project
[18:45:48] <rewbycraft> Ah, then go ahead
[18:45:52] <tyz> Not going to use my arch32 keys either.
[18:46:32] <tyz> deep42thought: hopefully the ^ above clears up potential confusion
[18:48:01] <tyz> also deep42thought: when you see these, the logs have resorted to using the bright/low contrast color for my 'tyz' nick again.
[18:48:31] <tyz> It's also difficult to see with rewbycraft's and fsckd's nicks
[18:55:41] -!- isacdaavid has joined #archlinux-ports
[18:59:02] <tyz> deep42thought: adding `.person { text-shadow: 0px 0px 0px black; }` to the CSS works as a stop-gap to improve the situation slightly.
[18:59:28] <tyz> but it's a minor improvement if anything. Still needs a more permanent solution.
[19:03:15] <tyz> deep42thought: CSS3 idea, `.person { filter: brightness(30%) saturate(500%); }` seems to work quite nicely.
[20:23:04] -!- abaumann has joined #archlinux-ports
[20:25:28] <abaumann> tyz: I actually prefer to bood in plain text mode or even over serial console, graphical boot is good for desktops and graphic cards having trouble when they have to switch from gui mode to text mode.
[20:25:44] <abaumann> s/bood/boot/
[20:26:43] <abaumann> actually there are several issues with the ISO not working well with old machines: on some graphic cards I have to disable the modeset, otherwise I get a black screen.
[20:27:22] <abaumann> Loading the whole ram disk from the ISO is nice, if you have enough memory, I still have 512 or even a 196 MB 32-bit machine, where running an overlay on the ISO9660 filesystem is actually far more handy.
[20:27:35] <abaumann> Just some thoughts form my point. :-)

[20:29:03] <abaumann> tyz: did you check out ArchBang? It has a very nice graphical spash screen and an installer, maybe this one is the better basis for your ISO project?

[22:41:06] <deep42thought> hmm, the colors are generated from the md5 hash of the user name
[22:42:05] <deep42thought> tyz: and apparently, yours starts with "e1e4c0"
[22:42:36] <rewbycraft> o/
[22:44:13] <tyz> deep42thought: That explains the poor coloring :P
[22:44:44] <tyz> deep42thought: look at that filter css3 property
[22:44:53] <tyz> I kinda like how that looks
[22:45:35] <tyz> deep42thought: also, it's still not applying the color to new posts.
[22:46:13] <deep42thought> yes, I know, I was just investigating
[22:47:11] <tyz> np. In theory, we could do a rgb -> hsv transformation, then just set value=.3*value and saturation=5*saturation
[22:47:21] <tyz> instead of relying on css
[22:48:02] <tyz> or we could say rgb -> hsv, if (v > 50%) { /* do something */ }
[22:49:02] <deep42thought> I was thinking of just "&& #7f7f7f"
[22:49:41] -!- nobodyknows2202 has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
[22:50:09] <tyz> that could work, but the colors will be dimmed.
[22:50:21] <deep42thought> darkened
[22:50:28] <tyz> The problem is only when the high bit is present on two or more
[22:50:32] <tyz> s/dimmed/less saturated/
[22:50:50] <deep42thought> ah, yes
[22:51:04] <deep42thought> I can come up with something more sophisticated :-)
[22:52:10] <tyz> deep42thought: I had a function that would take a range (iirc 0-1024) and map it evenly across the spectrum at constant value
[22:52:25] <tyz> perhaps if we only took the first 10bits of the hash, we could apply that?
[22:55:57] -!- isacdaavid has quit [Quit: Leaving.]
[23:01:54] <tyz> hey brtln: No rush or anything, but just curious about the mirrors?
[23:02:00] <tyz> ref: https://mirror.archlinux32.org
[23:02:01] <phrik> Title: #archlinux-ports | Logs for 2017-11-08 (at mirror.archlinux32.org)
[23:10:56] <brtln> I remember
[23:10:56] <brtln> as in, added to my todo
[23:11:02] <brtln> but I didn't do anything yet
[23:12:00] <brtln> tyz: can you look at https://git.archlinux.org and check how much this role makes sense in the arch32 context?
[23:12:02] <phrik> Title: main.yml\tasks\syncrepo\roles - infrastructure.git - Ansible is coming (at git.archlinux.org)
[23:12:27] <brtln> ignoring pacman.conf part
[23:12:55] <brtln> then I will pretty much copy&paste that role if you provide rsync endpoint and apply on servers
[23:13:56] <tyz> brtln: It looks sane, not sure what syncrepo is doing, though. Do you have the src of that?
[23:14:49] <brtln> https://git.archlinux.org
[23:14:49] <phrik> Title: syncrepo\files\syncrepo\roles - infrastructure.git - Ansible is coming (at git.archlinux.org)
[23:15:47] <tyz> brtln: yeah, found that. It looks good to me. I've never dealt with ansible before, so I can't say 100%, but I fail to find fault with it.
[23:16:20] <brtln> right, so I just need rsync address to sync from and I will handle it tomorrow
