[13:08:07] <finsternis> I have two thinkpads laptop, a T61 and a T500, both with 4GB (2 X 2GB) ram installed (DDR2 in T61, DDR3 in T500). In T61 3GB over the whole 4 are usable, in T500 only 2.5. Using the same O.S. (same HDD switched from one laptop to the other, with arch32 installed). Do you have an explication of why?
[13:12:24] <finsternis> in T61 there is 1 integrated intel video card, in T500 2, intel integrated and ati radeon discrete, and this is the output of glxinfo -B: T61: http://sprunge.us T500: http://sprunge.us
[13:12:29] <finsternis> in one Video memory: 384MB, in the other Video memory: 1536MB
[13:12:33] <finsternis> I don't know if that is the reason, but if yes, why?
[13:14:00] <finsternis> and I don't find in the bios any setting to change the amount of shared video memory
[13:15:43] <finsternis> I've also tried T500 with a hdd where I still have windows7 installed, and there 3GB are usable, not just 2.5
[13:17:42] <finsternis> I should try maybe other Linux distros to check if still only 2.5 GB are seen
[13:30:21] <T0MuX> Yes : basicly, 32bits OSes can use only 3,25Go of RAM
[13:30:31] <T0MuX> you have to use a PAE kernel
[13:30:40] <T0MuX> linux-pae
[13:31:22] <T0MuX> Pae is an extention making the 32 bits os able to use 64 Go of RAM :)
[13:31:27] <T0MuX> finsternis:
[13:34:05] -!- AndrevS has joined #archlinux32
[13:34:51] <finsternis> T0MuX: yes, I know that, what was surprising me was the different amount of usable ram in the two laptops
[13:35:18] <finsternis> I would've expected 3, or 3.25, or even 2.5 in both
[13:35:32] <finsternis> instead 3 in one, 2.5 in the other

[14:49:48] -!- oaken-source has joined #archlinux32
[15:43:41] <deep42thought> finsternis: my guess: the difference comes from different amounts of ram reserved for the graphics
[15:44:22] <deep42thought> "unified memory" accounts for the memory on the graphics card and shared system memory, so the system part may be any value between 0 and the value of "unified memory"
[15:44:39] <deep42thought> ... depending on the memory residing on the graphics card

[16:35:43] <buildmaster> Hi abaumann!
[16:35:43] <buildmaster> !rq abaumann
[16:35:43] <phrik> buildmaster: <abaumann> We should really not build a package more than 99 times. ;-)
[16:36:22] <abaumann> *sigh*, systemd seems again to cause trouble: I get an endless loop while booting my AMD-K6 (i486 branch): "[FAILED] Failed to start Network Name Resolution. See 'systemctl status systemd-resolved.service' for details. [ OK ] Stopped Network Name Resolution. Starting Network Name Resolution..."
[16:36:52] <abaumann> maybe those guys should really start to program and test their system and not just abuse the Linux community as beta testers?

[16:55:47] <abaumann> on stable. this is defenitely not a good thing.
[16:56:15] <abaumann> I had also to nudge libpulse, openjdk8 because of broken dependencies.

[20:20:11] <buildmaster> Hi abaumann!
[20:20:11] <buildmaster> !rq abaumann
[20:20:11] <phrik> buildmaster: <abaumann> canary no. 2 is back on testing. :-)
[20:20:13] <abaumann> deep42thought: yeah, that's true. But at a much smaller scale :-)
[20:20:20] <deep42thought> indeed :-D
[20:20:30] <abaumann> thanks for pushing systemd
[20:20:32] <abaumann> libsystemd
[20:20:36] <abaumann> I meant
[20:20:44] <deep42thought> yeah, np
[20:20:55] <deep42thought> I'm not sure, what' wrong with db-update lately :-/
[20:21:10] <abaumann> seems to have some issues with split packages..
[20:21:13] <deep42thought> but otoh I maybe ran db-update -p once too often ;-)
[20:21:21] <abaumann> ah. :-)
[20:21:26] <deep42thought> oh, this is a split package?
[20:21:54] <deep42thought> should we enforce moving split packages in a block?
[20:21:56] <abaumann> systemd, libsystemd, then openjdk stuff, pulseaudio and libpulseaudio.. I see a pattern here.. :-)
[20:22:03] <abaumann> might be an idea.
[20:22:23] <deep42thought> why didn't we consider that in the first place? This seems reasonable ...
[20:22:32] <abaumann> *abaumann tries to think hard about the ramifications of this approach
[20:22:39] <deep42thought> we move packages atomically, which were moved within 10 seconds upstream
[20:22:47] <deep42thought> but that doesn't catch everything, it seems
[20:23:12] <abaumann> fun fact: Archlinux ARM has the same issue around libreadline.7 and libreadline.8 :-)
[20:23:22] <deep42thought> oh, they do?
[20:23:24] <deep42thought> I didn't notice
[20:23:26] <abaumann> and they rely only on the upstream pushing schedule.
[20:23:39] <abaumann> I have a partially broken php7 on my webserver..
[20:23:51] <deep42thought> yeah, I noticed, x86_64 was broken for a short preiod, too, I think
[20:24:09] <abaumann> yep. I managed to catch exactly one of those broken states too :-)
[20:24:44] <deep42thought> it was my x86_64 build environment - and I naturally suspected it was the i686 build environment, instead (they look pretty similar)
[20:27:45] <buildmaster> i686/trilinos are broken (says nlopc46).
[21:22:07] -!- abaumann has quit [Quit: Lost terminal]
[21:30:47] <tyzoid> deep42thought: You might find this funny. I'm working with ipv6 on my server again, trying to figure out why my mail server won't connect via ipv6 anymore
[21:30:55] <tyzoid> and apparantly my host changed the routing again
[21:31:07] <tyzoid> It's now querying for ip addresses on-link instead of routing them to me.
[21:31:28] <deep42thought> ipv6 seemst still to be experimental at many places
[21:33:29] <tyzoid> Idk, most people still use ipv4, but I think it's nice to take advantage of ipv6 functionality to push the internet forward.
[21:33:37] <tyzoid> It's just sad that my host has this constantly be broken
[21:33:45] <tyzoid> but I'll have to get a net monitor on it
[21:34:08] <tyzoid> Since I'm almost always on ipv4, due to the way comcast does it's stuff.
[21:35:17] <deep42thought> yeah, I'd like to have flawless ipv6 everywhere, too - but I often get the feeling it's experimental ;-)
[21:35:31] <deep42thought> netmonitor might be a good idea
[21:41:17] <tyzoid> deep42thought: Only thing with the ipv6 stuff is that the arch32 sites I still host would be unaffected
[21:41:29] <tyzoid> since they are natted from existing on-link addresses.
[21:41:46] <deep42thought> so it's the maintenance-access only?
[21:42:01] <tyzoid> This pretty much only affects my mail server
[21:42:08] <tyzoid> which has no ipv6 connectivity atm
[21:42:27] <tyzoid> It *might* also affect ipv6 on git.archlinux32.org, but not sure
[21:42:57] <deep42thought> yup
[21:43:00] <tyzoid> Yeah, looks like it does
[21:43:10] <tyzoid> but yeah, bbs / bugs / etc. should still work via ipv6
[21:43:35] <deep42thought> they do
[21:43:53] <tyzoid> any luck with getting packages back up?
[21:44:06] <deep42thought> oh damn, I forgot about that
[21:44:07] <deep42thought> sry
[21:44:32] <deep42thought> ssh: connect to host packages.archlinux32.org port 2203: Connection refused
[21:44:43] <deep42thought> stupid me
[21:44:49] <tyzoid> I don't think you changed over the packages.archlinux32.org host
[21:44:53] <deep42thought> yeah
[21:48:31] <tyzoid> deep42thought: If you want to reset it, you can CNAME it to packages.arch32.tyzoid.com
[21:48:44] <deep42thought> just put it into my /etc/hosts
[21:49:00] <tyzoid> Gotcha.
[21:49:04] <tyzoid> No rush, btw.
[21:49:07] <deep42thought> ah, yeah, but when I'm done, I'll do exactly what you said
[21:49:28] <tyzoid> It's just weird to have a nav link error out.
[21:49:48] <deep42thought> hmm? what do you mean?
[21:55:06] <tyzoid> https://archlinux32.org
[21:55:08] <phrik> Title: Arch Linux 32 (at archlinux32.org)
[21:55:28] <deep42thought> that works for me
[21:55:38] <tyzoid> But if you click 'packages', the page is broke
[21:55:55] <deep42thought> works, too, for me
[21:56:02] <tyzoid> That's what I meant - we've got the link in the nav header
[21:56:19] <tyzoid> Because you set the host file :)
[21:56:27] <tyzoid> For anyone else, it'll be broke
[21:56:31] <deep42thought> no, I deleted that entry already again
[21:56:44] <deep42thought> it's not broke - it's served from my server
[21:57:14] <deep42thought> that one occassionally serves 50x's, but besides that it works ;-)
[21:57:24] <tyzoid> via TLS?
[21:57:46] <deep42thought> https works, yeah
[21:58:49] <tyzoid> huh, weird
[21:59:04] <tyzoid> Broken here, but a render outside seems to work
[22:04:50] <deep42thought> ok, mysql works again, dns is set, but it looks, the php scripts are outdate ... ah no
[22:04:59] <deep42thought> it's the webserver's config ...
[22:06:49] <deep42thought> ah, right, I re-wrote the pkgapi, too :-/
[22:27:28] <deep42thought> ok, packages.archlinux32.org should work again and be served from your server
[22:28:11] <deep42thought> note, that it's using pkgapi.archlinux32.org which is still served from my server, because it also includes i486 packages (and has a slightly different syntax for the parameters)
[23:10:22] <buildmaster> i686/mapnik is broken (says eurobuild3).
[23:52:18] -!- deep42thought has quit [Quit: Leaving.]
