[12:52:52] <buildmaster> Hi deep42thought!
[12:52:52] <buildmaster> !rq deep42thought
[12:52:52] <phrik> buildmaster: <deep42thought> computers ranked by dirt: smokers, car mechanics, bedroom, ...
[13:28:52] <buildmaster> pentium4/virtualbox-modules-arch is broken (says eurobuild1).

[13:44:08] <buildmaster> !rq deep42thought
[13:44:09] <phrik> buildmaster: <deep42thought> it was too slow - they don't offer that speed anymore, so they rounded down to 0
[13:56:09] <buildmaster> pentium4/linux is broken (says eurobuild1).

[14:32:15] <deep42thought> abaumann: please let me finish the db-update before actually rebooting the buildmaster :-)
[14:32:27] -!- guys has quit [Ping timeout: 258 seconds]
[14:35:44] <deep42thought> ok, done
[14:46:59] -!- guys has joined #archlinux32
[15:20:33] <elibrokeit> deep42thought: thoughts about prioritizing core/linux ?
[15:21:13] <deep42thought> the buildmaster is on hold, currently
[15:21:34] <deep42thought> because there is some spectre/whatever-mitigation-update going on on the hosting machine
[15:23:01] <deep42thought> I prioritized it, but IDK when it will actually be built
[15:24:19] <elibrokeit> the hosting machine is offline or something?
[15:24:45] <deep42thought> no, abaumann thinks it is best to reboot the buildmaster sometime then
[15:24:55] <deep42thought> or to throttle it at least
[15:25:06] <deep42thought> (I don't know what he had in mind precisely)
[15:25:32] <deep42thought> so he "paused" it

[15:28:05] <deep42thought> elibrokeit: btw, what do you think of adding libraries to the provides=() array of PKGBUILDs?

[15:41:12] <ahuillet> hi
[15:41:17] <deep42thought> Hi ahuillet!
[15:41:27] <ahuillet> deep42thought : you seem to have .ssh .config .bash_history and .lesshst lying around on the repository directory
[15:41:43] <ahuillet> rsync complains about not being able to copy these, started May 14th
[15:41:50] <deep42thought> gnaaa, not again

[15:43:11] <deep42thought> should be solved now
[15:43:39] <ahuillet> I'll let you know if it isn't
[15:43:43] <ahuillet> thanks
[15:43:49] <deep42thought> np, thanks for reporting

[15:53:07] <ahuillet> beating it are database files and ISOs of còurse

[16:39:12] <elibrokeit> deep42thought: years ago there was a movement to have [core] use library *depends*, not just provides, on the grounds that [core] needs to work in order to fix the rest of the distro when worst comes to worst. Coincidentally that does include ICU...

[17:11:51] <buildmaster> Hi abaumann!
[17:11:51] <buildmaster> !rq abaumann
[17:11:52] <phrik> buildmaster: <abaumann> Welcome to the beatiful world of well-maintained Linux-software. :->
[17:12:30] <abaumann> deep42thought: the buildmaster should be running now. It had high CPU load today, so I had to untangle some mysql/borg dump parallelisms (hence the reboot).
[17:13:15] <abaumann> The other is a maintainance window of the hoster. I will have to shutdown and restart the machine, so it picks up the new Intel microcode (I presume).
[17:13:29] <abaumann> But till then it can run normally..
[17:13:40] -!- ahuillet has parted #archlinux32
[17:18:45] <abaumann> splendid: now webkit2gtk builds _only_ the documentation..

[19:10:55] <phrik> buildmaster: <deep42thought> golang-asvnp-acwduac-sefc-evfsx-vb4fs-sefvcy is broken (says me)
[19:11:34] <deep42thought> eli: I can understand, that there might be arguments against a depends= entry - although I'm on the other side, then - but I wonder why we don't have provides= entries for libraries ...

[19:27:50] <bill-auger> i think he said, there was a bowel movement in committee, but nothing came out of it
[19:28:12] <bill-auger> maybe i read that wrong
[19:29:09] <elibrokeit> deep42thought: I'm saying that even in archlinux.org there was a movement to agree with you at least for [core] -- it's just that we've lapsed since then.
[19:29:35] <elibrokeit> There's an old bug about how bash broke on an ncurses update, rather famously tied to a partial firefox update.
[19:29:44] <elibrokeit> So for some time, bash depended on libncurses.so
[19:31:11] <elibrokeit> !sos
[19:31:12] <phrik> _Never_ -Sy when installing! https://gist.github.com
[19:33:15] <deep42thought> ah, ok, so you're not against it - you're simply slow to implement it ;-)
[19:33:53] <elibrokeit> no, we did partially implement it for some things, but then that eventually got reverted.
[19:35:04] <elibrokeit> Like I said, bash used to depend on libncursesw.so, this got removed by bpiotrowski in bash 4.4.011-2
[19:36:13] <elibrokeit> more generally there are other cases where I believe it would make sense to do this... bash doesn't depend on ncurses or readline, it depends on *libncurses* and *libreadline*, so it would be simple to modify those dependencies.
[19:36:51] <elibrokeit> and so on for other things too. It would be interesting and potentially quite beneficial to have [core] be resistant to breaking.
[19:37:20] <elibrokeit> But I have no authority to do anything in [core], so you may take this with a grain of salt...
