[08:20:12] <phrik> buildmaster: <deep42thought> documented => the bug becomes a feature
[08:20:49] <deep42thought> abaumann: what is trotz complaining about regarding srv0.tyzoid.com - the round-trip time?
[08:21:08] <deep42thought> maybe we should increase the threshold in that case - in the end, it's an over-sea server ;-)
[08:25:41] -!- abaumann has joined #archlinux32
[08:25:41] <buildmaster> Hi abaumann!
[08:25:41] <buildmaster> !rq abaumann
[08:25:42] <phrik> buildmaster: <abaumann> classic approach then.. add more resources to the problem :-)
[08:25:44] <abaumann> morning
[08:25:44] <deep42thought> Hi abaumann!
[08:26:01] <abaumann> yeah. I think the threshold for srv0 is a little bit low for WAN-over-seas :-)
[08:26:16] <abaumann> dito srv1
[08:26:28] <abaumann> "Define a service to "ping" the local machine"
[08:26:29] <abaumann> aha
[08:26:40] <deep42thought> lol
[08:26:44] <deep42thought> define "local"!
[08:26:58] <deep42thought> "local machine" = "machine in the local group"?
[08:27:20] <abaumann> isn't local nowadaus Earth excluding Mars and Moon? ;-)
[08:29:00] <deep42thought> no, I meant this: https://en.wikipedia.org
[08:29:01] <phrik> Title: Local Group - Wikipedia (at en.wikipedia.org)
[08:29:29] <abaumann> oh. :-)
[08:29:58] <abaumann> check_ping has no 128-bit support to measure that distance in milliseconds. :-)
[08:30:07] <deep42thought> sry, I'm always confused, what part of my physics/astronomy knowledge is common knowledge and which part is only "common" to Physicists
[08:30:22] <abaumann> just traced, 150 ms is the average
[08:30:28] <abaumann> and that's quite fast actually.
[08:32:05] <deep42thought> you know http://www.ibiblio.org , right?
[08:32:06] <phrik> Title: The case of the 500-mile email (at www.ibiblio.org)

[08:41:05] <abaumann> cool story :-)
[08:41:11] <deep42thought> :-)
[08:51:06] <abaumann> soffice.bin: error while loading shared libraries: libboost_locale.so.1.69.9

[08:51:19] <abaumann> boost-libs is on 1.71.0
[08:51:36] <abaumann> *libboost_locale.so.1.69.0
[08:51:54] <deep42thought> which libreoffice is that?
[08:52:20] <abaumann> libreoffice-still 6.2.6-1.0
[08:52:30] <abaumann> I wonder if just a rebuild would suffice?
[08:52:41] <deep42thought> there are dozens of i18n packages for libreoffice-{still,fresh} in community-staging but no new libreoffice-{still,fresh} itself
[08:52:51] <deep42thought> yes, it's worth a trial
[08:53:13] <abaumann> I'm on it..

[14:26:23] <phrik> buildmaster: <abaumann> manually updating certificates is so.. well 1980.. :-)
[14:26:41] <deep42thought> oldschool?
[14:27:32] <abaumann> huh?
[14:27:41] <deep42thought> your quote (not you^^)
[14:27:45] <abaumann> ah :-)
[14:28:12] <deep42thought> you're so used to those quotes, that you don't even notice them anymore?
[14:29:53] <abaumann> I just logged in on one window and immediatelly switched to another, so didn't notice. :-)

[14:31:22] <abaumann> oups.
[14:31:55] <deep42thought> strange
[14:32:00] <abaumann> Greece is going down-under? ;-)
[14:32:01] <deep42thought> systemd reports no errors
[14:32:22] <abaumann> that would be https://www.archlinux32.org
[14:32:23] <deep42thought> ah, mysqld is eating up 200% cpu
[14:32:26] <abaumann> 502 bad Gateway
[14:32:31] <abaumann> ah.
[14:32:42] <abaumann> the alert system works, I'm happy :-)
[14:32:59] * abaumann AFK fetching washed clothes..
[14:33:15] <deep42thought> A (short) timeout for the mysql queries on that server would be good
[14:33:28] <deep42thought> ... not only for the http part of the webserver
[14:37:51] <abaumann> yeah. but wouldn't this kill also long-running queries?
[14:38:02] <deep42thought> yes?
[14:38:06] <deep42thought> that was the goal
[14:38:20] <deep42thought> ah, you mean *currently*?
[14:38:25] <abaumann> yes.
[14:38:38] <deep42thought> no, currently, you get a 50x and the query lingers around
[14:38:42] <deep42thought> until it is finished some time
[14:38:52] <deep42thought> and then it's cached and subsequent queries will be faster
[14:39:05] <deep42thought> well, they will not be actually handed over to mariadb
[14:39:15] <deep42thought> ... at least, that's what I think, that happens
[14:42:57] <abaumann> you could always serve from the cache for web requests and do some periodic warming in the background with curl
[14:44:22] <deep42thought> well, the problem does not seem to be too many simultanous requests, but rather the wrong kind of requests :-(
[14:48:02] <abaumann> how does pacman distinguish whether it installs the package 'base' or the group 'base'?
[14:48:19] <deep42thought> I think, it prefers a package with exact name over the group
[14:48:40] <abaumann> this is really a unfortunate change, it breaks docker image preparation..
[14:49:17] <deep42thought> though, I think, the change goes in the right direction
[14:49:23] <abaumann> and base draws in still far too many dependencies (pciutils iproute2 systemd-sysvcompat)
[14:49:34] <abaumann> you cannot create minimal images that way
[14:49:58] <deep42thought> well, it's the set of packages which you should install to get support from upstream :-)
[14:50:37] <abaumann> well, yeah. I'll try to adapt the build scripts..
[14:50:53] <deep42thought> hmm? ours?
[14:51:04] <abaumann> https://git.archlinux32.org
[14:51:06] <phrik> Title: archlinux32/docker: docker images for Archlinux32 - Archlinux32 Gitea (at git.archlinux32.org)
[14:51:08] <abaumann> a fork of docker moby
[14:51:12] <deep42thought> ah, ok
[14:51:14] <trotz> 2019/10/11 14:50 OK okeanos Home HTTP OK: HTTP/2.0 200 - 21873 bytes in 2.045 second response time

[14:51:54] <deep42thought> we should hook up some irc bots on archlinux32.org, mirror.archlinux32.org and so on which respond to trotz complaining about them
[14:52:11] <abaumann> systemd-sysvcompat is a weird requirement for base, as it is legacy. Archlinux works fine without it and only with systemd.
[14:52:28] <deep42thought> what's it do? bring sysvinitscripts to systemd?
[14:52:52] <deep42thought> well, open a bug against base >:-D
[14:52:53] <abaumann> basically it contains expected things like 'reboot', 'poweroff'
[14:53:02] <abaumann> you can use 'systemctl reboot' etc.
[14:53:11] <deep42thought> ah, right
[14:53:18] <abaumann> now it builds. :-)
[14:53:44] <abaumann> My strategy was to install base and remove some "superflous" stuff..
[14:54:08] <abaumann> mmh. it lacks architecture switch for i486 and pentium4..
[14:54:19] <deep42thought> yea
[14:54:27] <deep42thought> I never really bothered with docker ...
[14:56:29] <abaumann> .. good thing. They are still on the search of a business case and .. as a matter of fact.. venture capital :->
