[05:55:23] <fuselage> hey, seems there's no netboot for arch32 like there is for mainstream arch, right?
[06:02:20] <fuselage> and btw how r things going w arch32?
[06:02:31] <fuselage> seems like the forum is pretty active
[06:02:52] <fuselage> i still got 1 machine that runs 32-bit arch
[06:12:08] -!- DCyrax has quit [Quit: Leaving]
[06:34:55] -!- abaumann has joined #archlinux32
[06:34:55] <buildmaster> Hi abaumann!
[06:34:55] <buildmaster> !rq abaumann
[06:34:56] <phrik> buildmaster: <abaumann> no --please-do-not-use-enormous-amounts-of-memory-while-compressing ;-)
[06:35:49] <abaumann> fuselage: the forum is mainly active, if we break things :-)
[06:36:00] <abaumann> no, there is no official PXE netboot or iPXE download as such
[06:36:25] <fuselage> no plans for such abaumann?
[06:36:30] <abaumann> personally I set up PXE/TFTP installations especially for old machines
[06:36:39] <abaumann> it's just not in a publishable state
[06:37:00] <abaumann> http://archlinux32.andreasbaumann.cc
[06:37:01] <phrik> Title: Index of /tftp (at archlinux32.andreasbaumann.cc)
[06:37:43] <fuselage> haven't added arch32 repos to my system yet. it's seriously outta date (prolly more than a yr since update/upgrade)
[06:37:47] <abaumann> the tricky part will be if you are low on memory
[06:38:08] <abaumann> then you have to go through the migration anyway first
[06:38:28] <fuselage> just wasn't sure when 32 bit support got removed from mainline arch whether this 32-bit project would actually survive
[06:38:44] <fuselage> but looks like it's doing ok
[06:38:58] <abaumann> it's a catchup game and we are low on human resources
[06:39:03] <fuselage> think i got 1GB RAM on that system
[06:39:19] <fuselage> how many devs?
[06:39:26] <abaumann> that's no problem then. everything above 768MB runs without having to tweak the iso or the initial ramdisk
[06:39:40] <fuselage> good to hear
[06:39:57] <abaumann> 2 in archlinux32, but there are also people at Parabola helping out.
[06:40:11] <fuselage> it's actually an old netbook i set up to function as a router
[06:40:19] <fuselage> wow. just 2
[06:40:47] <fuselage> wish i could help. but my technical skills r not too advanced
[06:40:55] <abaumann> you can check the commit logs here: https://git.archlinux32.org
[06:40:55] <phrik> Title: Archlinux32 Git Repositories (at git.archlinux32.org)
[06:41:17] <abaumann> using it and setting it up and providing feedback is very valuable to us :-)
[06:41:31] <abaumann> we simply cannot test everything
[06:41:36] <abaumann> the build per se is automatized
[06:42:20] <fuselage> k. mb i can pitch in somehow. actually wound up putting void on my other 32-bit machine (file server)
[06:42:20] <abaumann> manual work consists mainly of fixing 64-bit only code to work on 32-bit and to work around badly written build systems of certain software.. :->
[06:45:54] <fuselage> https://bbs.archlinux.org <--there's a description of the router project
[06:45:54] <phrik> Title: [SOLVED] Setting up a netbook as a router; input solicited / Networking, Server, and Protection / Arch Linux Forums (at bbs.archlinux.org)
[06:48:25] <abaumann> yeah, this is basic stuff which should work just fine on Archlinux32

[07:38:15] <buildmaster> Hi deep42thought!
[07:38:15] <buildmaster> !rq deep42thought
[07:38:16] <phrik> buildmaster: <deep42thought> good night, python - cu tomorrow python2!
[07:38:34] <deep42thought> good morning!
[07:38:44] -!- isacdaavid has quit [Quit: Leaving.]
[08:10:23] <abaumann> morning deep42thought
[08:10:24] <deep42thought> error: failed retrieving file 'man-pages-5.06-1-any.pkg.tar.xz' from arch.eckner.net : Operation too slow. Less than 1 bytes/sec transferred the last 10 seconds
[08:10:24] <deep42thought> warning: failed to retrieve some files
[08:10:24] <deep42thought> this is really annoying
[08:10:24] <abaumann> kbookmarks didn't make it to stable, effectlively blocking kconsole
[08:10:24] <deep42thought> anything to do against this?
[08:10:24] <abaumann> mmh.
[08:10:24] <deep42thought> did you force-move it?
[08:10:27] <abaumann> yep
[08:10:28] <abaumann> just now
[08:10:46] <abaumann> mmh. I get these errors all the time on slow devices like raspberry pis
[08:10:52] <deep42thought> yes, me too
[08:10:52] <abaumann> kick upstream to remove it :-)
[08:10:58] <deep42thought> on a *local*mirror*
[08:11:22] <abaumann> we can patch it locally
[08:12:14] <deep42thought> this is on archlinuxarm
[08:12:23] <deep42thought> ... ah, ok, *and* archlinux32
[08:12:35] <deep42thought> and probably on archlinux, too - if I would use that more @home
[08:13:13] <abaumann> the problem is: pacman should measure first what the typical network speed is, then show errors on deviations.
[08:13:19] <abaumann> I personally would just remove it
[08:13:47] <abaumann> wow, gnome even works on i686 (for now)
[08:15:06] <abaumann> konsole works
[08:15:44] <deep42thought> we could upstream a patch for an option to disable that speed-test
[08:15:55] * deep42thought would use this option
[08:16:12] <abaumann> Maybe if you change XferCommand?
[08:16:26] <abaumann> and you don't use the internal libcurl implementation..
[08:16:59] * abaumann wonders whether today is a good rust day..
[08:17:11] <deep42thought> rusty weather?
[08:17:24] <abaumann> actually. the weather is stelar.
[08:17:40] <abaumann> I feel tempted to do some cycling..
[08:18:03] <deep42thought> go out, have fun, let rust rust
[08:18:08] <abaumann> :-)
[08:18:25] <abaumann> let's first see whether my company projects are not rusting...
[08:18:34] <deep42thought> :-D
[08:18:40] <abaumann> ..had quite some fun yesterday with Dosa attacks and crashing services..
[08:24:08] <abaumann> wow. starting kde/plasma, baloo is a huge resource hog
[08:27:09] <deep42thought> where does this warning even come from? I cannot find it in the pacman sources O.o
[08:27:15] <deep42thought> is this a curl thing itself?
[08:27:34] <abaumann> yep. you set a bandwith limit when instantiating the curl object IIRC
[08:27:42] <deep42thought> ah, ok
[08:27:46] <buildmaster> pentium4/haskell-yesod-auth is broken (says eurobuild6-3) - I rescheduled: haskell-yesod-form: https://archlinux32.org
[08:30:30] <deep42thought> DisableDownloadTimeout
[08:30:49] <deep42thought> there *is* an option for that :-)
[08:32:07] <abaumann> oh :-)
[08:32:43] <abaumann> ah, cool beans, taking back all my rants (as usual)
[08:32:53] <deep42thought> !grab abaumann
[08:32:53] <phrik> deep42thought: Tada!
[08:45:53] <buildmaster> pentium4/hledger-web is broken (says eurobuild6-1) - I rescheduled: haskell-yesod: https://archlinux32.org
[08:46:55] <abaumann> MediumD: now hledger and hledger-ui work on pentium4, but not hledger-web
[08:46:58] <abaumann> on pentium4
[08:47:06] <abaumann> in i686 everything is still broken
[08:47:19] <abaumann> I simply don't get the idea of the build process of Haskell packages..

[13:18:13] -!- crem has joined #archlinux32
[13:20:27] <crem> Hi! Basic question, is archlinux32 going to last for a few years at least? :) Going to reinstall the system for my 32-bit setup, wonder whether should go with arch or debian.
[13:21:34] <crem> Although on previous attempts everything except debian hanged on the first book (it's fit-PC2), and I couldn't find out what's wrong...
[13:36:14] <T`aZ> i could not go back to debien and their obsolete packages
[13:36:51] <T`aZ> debian* , anyway, if at one point in time this project slows down, you can still switch at that time, and enjoy arch now \o/
[13:46:06] -!- DCyrax has joined #archlinux32
[13:51:13] <crem> Yeah I found myself in debian v(current_release-3) a few months ago, was quite a pain to upgrade. Will try arch now, hopefully it will work. Probably some non-standard hardware makes it hang, if only I knew which exactly..
[13:52:35] <T`aZ> to be honest, the support to old, 32bits hardware is rotting
[13:53:09] <T`aZ> kernel devs aren't testing that anymore, nor are they interested in fixing that either -_-
[13:54:32] <crem> It feels kind of sad if I had to throw it away... It works perfectly fine for my use case (which is keeping weechat running and hosting audio files so that I could listen to them from anywhere).
[13:56:35] <T`aZ> just install already, wiht a bit of luck you won't have any issue :D
[13:58:57] <crem> Will do in the evening. At work (from home) now. And it works now, I just got a disk upgrade delivered, so thought it's an opportunity to reinstall the system.
